Description:Hold On! by James -Six- Hunter, released 4 February 2016, includes the following tracks: "(baby) Hold On", "A Truer Heart", "Light Of My Life", "Satchel Foot" and more. This version of Hold On! comes as a 1xCD. -
2016 album from the critically-acclaimed vocalist. This may be James Hunter's fourth album, but it is his first Daptone record. Produced by Daptone's own Bosco Mann (Gabriel Roth) at Penrose Recorders (Daptone West) near his home in Riverside, California, Hold On! is a perfect portrait of an artist at the top of his game. James Hunter has been on the scene for enough years to acquire plenty of feathers in his cap. Billboard charts, Grammy nominations, and Van Morrison collaborations aside, he has earned an international reputation as a Rhythm and Blues troubadour for his command of the microphone both on stage and in studio. This album, however, is something far deeper than just another notch in his belt. It is truly an artist's vision come to fruition. Though tunes like "(Baby) Hold On," "If That Don't Tell You," and "Stranded" carry the buoyant energy, crackerjack arrangements, and tough soulful pulse for which the band has become renowned, the true treasures of this LP may lie in the deeper grooves. Rumbas, boleros, bossanovas, and easy rockers, each one swinging more than the last: "This Is Where We Came In", "Something's Calling", "A Truer Heart", "Light of My Life", "In The Dark" - no clichéd throwback nods to a-time-gone-by here. These are forever songs crafted with immaculate care and ingenuity, sung with an effortless balance of tenderness and grit. Many will be tempted to describe it as "authentic," but the word really has no place here. Hunter's words are truly his own and though at moments his voice may "evoke" Ray Charles or Sam Cooke, there lies an inherent naturalness in these songs that bucks any comparison past or present.

"Hold On!" is a soulful CD release by The James Hunter Six that captures the timeless spirit of classic rhythm & blues while sounding fresh and immediate. Across the album, Hunter's warm, slightly raspy voice glides over tight, horn-driven arrangements, infectious grooves and melodies that linger long after the music stops. Listeners can expect a blend of up-tempo shuffles, mid-tempo soul tunes and tender ballads, all recorded with an organic, analog-leaning sound that emphasizes authenticity and emotional depth. The CD format provides clear, detailed audio, making it ideal for enjoying the nuances of the band's playing and Hunter's expressive vocals in full fidelity. "Hold On!" is perfectly suited for fans of vintage soul, early R&B and blues-inflected pop who appreciate strong songwriting and a live-in-the-studio feel.

The James Hunter Six is known for its frontman James Hunter, a British soul and R&B singer-songwriter and guitarist who has earned a dedicated following for his heartfelt songs and retro-inspired sound. Over the years, Hunter has toured extensively, shared stages with major artists in the soul and blues world, and received critical acclaim for both his studio albums and high-energy live performances. His work is often praised for its authenticity, with many critics noting how convincingly he channels the golden age of soul while retaining a distinctive personal voice. With The James Hunter Six, he has solidified his reputation as one of the leading contemporary purveyors of classic soul and rhythm & blues.

The CD is released by Daptone Records, a label celebrated for its commitment to real, analog soul and funk. Based on a deep love for classic 1960s and 1970s sounds, Daptone has become synonymous with warm, rich productions, live band recordings and a strictly no-nonsense approach to making records. The label is widely respected in the music community for championing artists who keep traditional soul, funk and R&B alive, winning over both critics and collectors around the world. By issuing "Hold On!" on CD, Daptone Records underlines its mission to present timeless music with exceptional audio quality and meticulous attention to detail in both sound and presentation.
