Capuçon is now Artistic Director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. â??Iâ??m entering a new chapter in my life,â? he says, â??The orchestraâ??s quality of sound is the kind of thing you dream about.â? His first recording with the Lausanne players is also his first full-scale recording as a conductor, though he also plays violin on four of the tracks. The album, Tabula Rasa, is devoted to works by Pärt, who turned 86 this month. The Estonian composer crafts his intricate music using a method he calls tintinnabuli â?? evoking the mysterious resonance of bells. Often drawing inspiration from his Eastern Orthodox faith, it evolves gently, drawing in the listener for a meditative, even spiritual experience.
Tabula Rasa takes its name from the largest of the eight works on the programme, a concerto for two violins, string orchestra and prepared piano.
