 | | Description: | "Overnight Smash" ist ein Track aus Steve Contes kommendem Album Bronx Cheer, welches am 5. November erscheint.
- Limited picture disc LP pressing. New York City guitarist, singer and songwriter Steve Conte has found the way back to center stage with his first solo album in five years, the attitude-infused Bronx Cheer. The Wicked Cool Records release is brimming with the spirit of New York both past and present. "I remember the danger, dirty streets, the garbage strike, sleazy 42nd Street," Conte recalls of his first visits to the city as a kid in the 1970s. "When I moved here in the mid-1980s it was not all that different - but it's very different now. Yet somehow, I still love it - and hate it. To me that's what the Blues and Punk Rock have in common - complaining!" Long known for his memorable guitar work as a member of New York Dolls, as well as former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe's band (with whom he still performs), Steve found international fame in recent years via his collaborations with Japanese composer and artist Yoko Kanno on the soundtracks to several hit anime series, including Cowboy Bebop."Bronx Cheer" is an LP by singer, guitarist and songwriter Steve Conte, released on the rock-focused label Wicked Cool Records. On this album, Conte delivers a powerful blend of classic rock, power pop and gritty New York street attitude, full of punchy guitars, instantly memorable hooks and soulful vocals. "Bronx Cheer" feels like a love letter to 1970s and 1980s rock records, yet with a fresh, modern edge: driving riffs, sing-along choruses and emotionally charged lyrics about resilience, love, loss and survival in the city. The LP format underlines the album's old-school spirit - from the sequencing of side A and side B to the warm, dynamic sound tailored for vinyl listeners who appreciate a full-length rock experience.
Lyrically and musically, the record walks the line between raw energy and strong songwriting craft. Up-tempo tracks with big choruses are balanced by more melodic, introspective moments, giving "Bronx Cheer" a varied flow that rewards listening from start to finish. The production highlights Conte's expressive voice and guitar work, while the tight arrangements keep the focus firmly on the songs themselves. Fans of guitar-driven rock with big melodies and attitude will find this LP particularly appealing.
