Description:Das neue Album „Iridescent“ der Metalcore-Favoriten Silent Planet. -
2021 release. Everything Was Sound, the sophomore release on Solid State Records, is unrelenting in it's endeavor to marry it's sophisticated metalcore sound with the quiet voice of the alienated. The band's vocalist, Garret Russell, walks us out of their first album's story and straight into this one: a metaphorical prison housing society's misunderstood. The panopticon (both a psychological concept and a physical space) is a many roomed, doorless prison equipped with one, concealed guard. Without the ability to see where the guard is looking, the construct effectively controls each inmates behavior. Russell uses this theory (designed by philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham) to represent the societal imprisonment culture places on the mentally wounded. He walks us through nine rooms, with nine varying prisoners, and tells their stories.
Issued in a digipak.
"Iridescent" is a powerful CD release by Silent Planet, issued by the acclaimed heavy music label Solid State. Musically, the album blends atmospheric metalcore with progressive and post-metal elements: dense guitar layers, dynamic tempo changes, and a strong focus on emotional intensity. Across the tracks, Silent Planet explore themes such as inner conflict, trauma, faith, and social tensions, combining poetic, often metaphor-rich lyrics with aggressive yet precise instrumentation. Breakdowns and driving riffs are contrasted with quieter, almost cinematic passages, creating a multi-layered listening experience that rewards both focused listening and repeat plays.

The production on "Iridescent" underscores this contrast between brutality and beauty. Tight, modern guitar tones, punchy drums, and a clearly defined low end ensure that even the heaviest sections remain transparent. Melodic leads and atmospheric textures weave in and out of the mix, while the vocals range from harsh screams and growls to fragile, melodic passages. This dynamic vocal performance reinforces the album's emotional depth and allows the songs to shift effortlessly between introspective moments and cathartic climaxes.

Solid State, the label behind this CD, has built a strong reputation in the world of heavy and alternative Christian-adjacent music, repeatedly discovering and supporting influential bands in metalcore and related genres. Known for high production standards and a carefully curated roster, Solid State has long stood for releases that combine musical ambition with artistic integrity. With "Iridescent," the label once again underlines its role as a home for innovative heavy music that pushes genre boundaries without losing its core identity.

Silent Planet have become one of the most distinctive voices in modern metalcore. The band is widely recognized for its intellectual, literary-influenced lyrics and its willingness to address difficult subjects such as mental health, war, injustice, and spiritual doubt. Over the years, Silent Planet have developed a loyal fanbase through intense live performances, conceptually strong albums, and a consistent artistic vision. Their previous releases have been praised in the heavy music press for their emotional impact and their blend of technical prowess and heartfelt songwriting. "Iridescent" continues this trajectory, presenting Silent Planet as a band that not only refines its sound but also deepens its thematic and emotional resonance with each new record.
